Terms of Use

Please read and agree to the following Terms of Use and House Rules before using TOTOPA Hakata (the “Facility”).

This page is a translation provided for convenience. The Japanese version is the authoritative text and prevails in case of any discrepancy.

Article 1

Application

All users of the Facility shall use it in accordance with the following articles.

Article 2

Refusal of Use

The Facility may refuse use, or all or part of the Facility may become unavailable, in the following cases. In such cases no fees will be refunded unless the Facility has acted willfully or with gross negligence.

  1. When a user is deemed likely to act against public order or good morals.
  2. Members of organized crime groups, or persons likely to commit violent or unlawful acts collectively or habitually.
  3. Persons who, knowing the circumstances in item (2), bring in or introduce a member of an organized crime group to use the Facility.
  4. Persons with contagious diseases or who are unable to control excretion.
  5. When there are other reasons that make use of the Facility undesirable.
  6. When part of the Facility becomes unavailable due to replacement work on a bath contaminated by waste.
  7. Natural disasters, breakdown or repair of the Facility, or other unavoidable reasons.
  8. Persons with tattoos on their body who cannot comply with the conditions of use published on the Facility’s website or posted in the Facility.
Article 3

Business Hours

Business hours are as published on the website and posted at the Facility. They may be changed temporarily.

Article 4

Payment of Fees

Fees payable by users are those shown on the price list in the Facility, in leaflets and on the website. Payment is made at the front desk, at the automatic checkout machines, or by online payment.

Article 5

Expiry of Digital Coupons

Digital coupons issued by the Facility have an expiry date. Expired coupons cannot be used for any reason. The validity period may be extended in the event of natural disasters, breakdown or repair of the Facility, or other unavoidable reasons.

Article 6

Compliance with House Rules

Users shall comply with the “House Rules” published on the website and posted in the Facility.

Article 7

Refusal of Continued Use

The Facility may refuse continued use in the following cases.

  1. When any of items (1) through (8) of Article 2 applies.
  2. When the user does not comply with the House Rules in the preceding article.
Article 8

Valuables

All valuables are managed at the user’s own responsibility. The Facility accepts no liability unless it has acted willfully or with gross negligence.

Article 10

Accidents During Use

Accidents occurring during use of the Facility are handled as follows. (Article 9 is intentionally vacant to keep the numbering of the existing terms.)

  1. The Facility accepts no liability for accidents occurring during use, except where the Facility has acted willfully or with gross negligence.
  2. The Facility accepts no liability for change or other items left behind at the automatic checkout machines, except where the Facility has acted willfully or with gross negligence.
Article 11

Compensation for Damage

Users who cause damage to the Facility willfully or by negligence shall compensate for such damage.

Article 12

Storage of Lost Property

Lost or forgotten belongings are stored for the following periods.

  1. Valuables are stored, in principle, for 3 days including the day found; if no contact is received, they are handed to the nearest police station. Items containing identification are handed to the police on the day after they are found.
  2. General items (items the police do not accept, such as food, bath goods and clothing) are stored, in principle, for 3 days from the day found and are disposed of at the Facility’s discretion if no inquiry is received.
  3. To handle lost property appropriately according to its nature, the Facility may inspect its contents and either return it to the owner or dispose of it in accordance with item (2) above. Users may not object to this.
  4. Where the Facility stores lost property at a user’s request or for other reasons, storage is limited to one week from the date of contact. Items exceeding one week may be disposed of at the Facility’s discretion, and users may not object.
Article 13

Cleaning and Patrols

The following may occur during cleaning and patrols of the Facility.

  1. Users may be asked to leave the sauna temporarily while mats are replaced during business hours.
  2. Users may be asked to leave temporarily while parts of the facility, such as the steam bath, are disinfected and cleaned.
  3. Female staff may clean the men’s bathing area, changing room and toilets.
  4. In the event of sudden illness or injury in the women’s bathing area or changing room, male emergency personnel may enter after an announcement.

TOTOPA Hakata House Rules

To keep the Facility safe and open to all, we ask users to observe the following rules in accordance with Article 6 of the Terms of Use. Users who do not observe these rules may be refused continued use under Article 7 of the Terms of Use.

1. The following may not be brought into the Facility.

  • Animals and birds (including pets)
  • Items giving off a strong odor
  • Firearms and swords
  • Flammable or explosive items
  • Items that make noise

2. The following acts are prohibited in the Facility.

  • Gambling and other acts that disturb public morals
  • Selling goods, advertising or promotion
  • Entry by persons other than users of the baths, running station and other services
  • Acts that cause nuisance or discomfort to others

3. Please observe the following regarding equipment and items in the Facility.

  • Do not use them for purposes other than intended
  • Do not take them outside the Facility
  • Do not move them elsewhere

4. Users are responsible for all their actions while using the Facility.

5. The entire Facility is non-smoking. Please refrain from smoking.

6. Regarding children, please observe the following.

  • Children of elementary school age or older may not use the bathing area of the opposite sex.
  • Children under elementary school age who are 120 cm or taller may not use the bathing area of the opposite sex.
  • Children under elementary school age may not use the Facility on their own.
